College Planning Made Easy

Parent’s Myth
Private Colleges Cost More:
The truth could be the opposite. State universities get less private money and rely heavily on state and Federal funds. Private colleges often get more money from alumni and corporations therefore they have more funds to disperse.

College Savings Plans:
Investment advisers and banks promote college savings plans, but they seldom mention the market risks. These plans are ruled for college only so it’s not flexible when you need the money for other things. The biggest disadvantage is that the gain counts as your asset.

Expert's Tips
Life Insurance for College Savings
A properly designed Indexed Universal Life Insurance (IUL) could be a sound college savings alternative. IUL features fair return without market risk. It’s flexible that the money can be used for anything other than college education. The biggest advantage is that the gain does not count as your asset. Best of all... it’s tax-free.

Famous College & Financial Aid
Colleges tend to give better financial aid packages to the top 10-25% students. Use this to your advantage to apply only to those schools with less competitions where your child would fit into the top 10-25% rank.

Know the Details
Research shows that more than 76% of high school students do not have a career goal. Their college choices are under heavy influences from friends rather than their own talent or strength. We have seen many college students waste at least a year of school to find out the major they had chosen did not meet their interest. Therefore, they had to change major. Not only does this waste time, it also wastes money.

College Planning
Many parents invest thousands of dollars to hire tutors to ensure that their kids getting good grades, but parents often neglect to evaluate their child‘s real interest, search ‘Best Fit’ colleges, get familiar with the college’s requirements, learn to predominate the admission qualifications, create a system to pave the way for their kid to go college. These strategies can be started as early as in 9th grade. Sadly, busy parents don’t have the time to learn about this valuable information. They pass these responsibilities back to their child, or rely on high school counselors who are already swamped.

Network & Guidance
Unfortunately, most parents think the college’s financial aid office will help their child. Don’t forget, your child is just another student seeking help from the staff. They may not work at your child’s best interest. After all, the amount of grants your child is getting will largely depend on luck. The truth is, there are plenty of funds available for everyone from the private sector, enterprises, etc. These organizations make awards available to ethnic groups, special talents and skills. Without proper guidance, it is almost impossible to figure out this complicated financial aid process.
